temptation

The inner pull to engage in egoic thinking or behavior. This temptation seems to be an involuntary pull towards some forbidden pleasure, which has an unfortunate after-effect of guilt. Yet it is really a voluntary wish, a wish for guilt, hell and misery (see CE T-31.VIII.4:1). We must learn, however, that temptation is simply “another chance to choose again” (CE T-31.IX.4:1), through response to temptation.
